Eligiblity Required For Minor Passport in India

Eligibility Required For Minor Passport in India

Introduction

A passport is a very important document. Without a passport, you cannot travel outside the country. If you want to go abroad with your child and you have not applied for his/her passport then we are here to help you out. Here we will provide complete details about minor passports in India and steps to apply for same.

Child below 15 years of age (minor)

A child who is below 15 years of age (minor) can apply for a minor passport. The minor needs to have his/her parents’ authorization in writing, along with his or her birth certificate or a copy of it along with other relevant documents. In case there is no father or mother, then the court-appointed guardian can apply on behalf of the minor.

Applicants who are above the age of 18 years but below 21 years need to submit their school leaving certificates and other relevant documents along with parental permission in writing before applying for a passport.

For children below 5 years (unmarried)

For children below 5 years (unmarried)

Children below the age of five years are eligible to apply for a minor passport if they are traveling with both parents or legal guardians.

Parents and guardians should be prepared to submit all documents that prove their relationship with the child. In addition, they must also have valid passports if they’re applying for an international renewal or first-time application. If this requirement is not fulfilled, it will result in an invalidated application and you may lose your fee payment and documents submitted during the process

For Children between 5-15 years of age

To apply for a minor passport, the child should be below 15 years of age. The child should also be unmarried and should have a valid passport. In order to apply for a minor passport, both parents or guardians should accompany the child during his/her journey abroad since passports cannot be issued without their signatures on it.

Minor Passport in India

Passport for minors is issued to children under the age of 18 years or below 21 years or even 25 years.

  • You must be above 5 years old and below 18 years of age to be eligible for a Minor Passport.

  • If you are between the ages of 15-18, you can apply for a Passport Card by submitting all the required documents and paying an additional fee. This card is valid only in India and cannot be used as a substitute for a Full Passport book at any time during your stay in other countries outside India. The same rule applies even if you have already received your full passport prior to turning 16! However, there is no need to apply again as long as your photo page remains blank — this means that no visas have been stamped on it yet either…
