How to Renew your Passport

This guide will walk you through each process step with tips on getting your renewed passport before your next trip abroad.

Step 1: Apply Early

You can do this by filling out Form DS-82 and providing the required documentation. For this form, you will need to submit:

• your current valid passport (if you have one)
• a completed application form
• an oath of allegiance (if you are under 18 years old)
• proof of citizenship—a certified birth certificate or a combination of other documents that prove your citizenship statuseses, such as a naturalization certificate or consular report of birth abroad. You may also use the applicant's photocopy if they were born in one particular state but live in another state now and don't want to travel back home just to get their actual birth certificate.
