What is the difference between a fresh and reissued passport?
Introduction
Fresh or reissue of passport, both are different. A fresh passport is a new passport that you apply for when your existing one expires, while a reissue of a passport means a previously issued passport that has been returned to the Passport Office because it was lost, stolen, or damaged. You can apply for a fresh or reissue of Indian Passport Online on this website.
What is a fresh or reissued passport?
A fresh passport is a new passport that you apply for when your existing passport has expired or is damaged and no longer in your possession.
On the other hand, a reissued passport is an application that you make when your existing valid travel document has been lost or stolen and will be issued after the completion of the police report/certificate.

Will the passport number change after reissuing India?
If you are holding a valid passport and want to reissue it, the passport number will be changed. This is because your current passport is issued by India, but if you choose to reissue your Indian passport then it will be issued by a foreign country. Therefore, the number will change as well for convenience.
What is the cost of reissuing of passport?
While the cost of the reissue of a passport is different for everyone, it depends on the type of passport and the number of pages in your previous passport.
If you are applying for a new passport with a single page, then the fee will be Rs.1,500/-. On the other hand, if your previous passport has more than one page or you need to update your details in your existing passport due to some reason (like a change in name or new address), then you will have to pay Rs 2,000/- as fee.
If you are applying for the first time and want to get a fresh one issued at home/office etc., then there will be no extra charges levied on top of these fees mentioned above. However, if someone wants their old passports renewed at home/office etc., then there will be an additional charge levied by CPV-Chennai which is not included in these two options given above - it may vary from person to person depending upon its location whether it is likely that he/she may travel out frequently from his/her residence place so make sure before paying any amount towards this fee because otherwise which means more money being spent unnecessarily during issuance process only when no need was required! It can happen because sometimes people do forget where exactly they have applied online without knowing its exact location beforehand too!
